The facility will provide healthcare services & act as a community gathering and cultural resource hub for T’Sou-ke members.
Construction Begins
On May 26th 2023, the T’Sou-ke Nation took an important step toward its goals of self-sufficiency and environmental sustainability when it broke ground on the new Community Complex and Health Centre.
The facility will service T’Sou-ke members, as well as the Sooke community and residents from South Langford to Port Renfrew. The facility is expected to be completed in the winter of 2024 and the Nation is looking for individual and corporate sponsors to help support construction costs.
The Vision behind this Opportunity
The T’Sou-ke Nation is constructing a new 12,500 ft2 Community Complex and Health Centre on IR 1, just off of Highway 14. The facility will provide healthcare services and act as a cultural and community gathering and resource hub for T’Sou-ke members. Once completed in 2024, the facility will be a catalyst for a new chapter of healing, cultural resurgence and capacity development for the T’Sou-ke Nation.
Funding has been secured to support the construction of the facility. We are currently seeking donations to off-set the Nation’s portion of the construction costs, long term operation costs, and the development of cultural and community programming activities.
Location & Rationale
The Community Complex and Health Centre has a floor area of 12,500 ft2 and will be located off Edward Milnes Road, north of Highway 14 on IR 1 in Sooke BC. The facility will tie into the Nation's future commercial development plans in the area.
The need for the facility was assessed through the T’Sou-ke Nation’s Comprehensive Community Plan. The current community and health buildings cannot support community growth or diverse program delivery, are energy inefficient and do not reflect the community’s cultural values. The facility is also long overdue as the current administration building is over 60 years old, and the ancillary offices are outdated modular portables that are over 50 years old. The facility will provide much-needed space for cultural and language teachings, community meals and events, food preparation and preservation, outdoor gatherings and play for children, and medicinal gardening and harvesting activities.
The Community Complex and Health Centre will include various spaces, health services and culture and capacity development programs.
